Research shows the increasing demands and challenges on SENCOs, which are impacting on their mental health, morale and ability to effectively support learners, families and staff. It also shows that increasing supportive measures for SENCOs, such as through supervision, can provide a protective factor which not only supports wellbeing, but can aid professional development and performance.
Supervision is a structured process where a SENCO meets regularly with a supervisor to discuss their work, reflect on their practice, and receive support and guidance. It's a collaborative process designed to enhance professional development, improve performance, and promote wellbeing. Benefits include:
Supervision is most effective as part of regular supportive arrangements. Our supervision sessions are typically one-hour long and are supported by supervisors who are experienced SENCOs and hold the National Postgraduate Certificate for Special Educational Needs Coordination.
