Professional Leadership Supervision and Supervision For Educators

Ned Logo

Professional Supervision for Schools

The education system places increasing demands on leadership roles in schools. Our professional leadership supervision service provides confidential and supportive supervision to school leaders, SENCOs, and senior mental health leaders to enhance their well-being, effectiveness, and resilience.

What is 'Supervision'?

Professional leadership supervision and supervision for educators is a structured process where a qualified supervisor provides support and guidance to another professional. It's a confidential and supportive space for the supervisee (the person receiving supervision) to:

  • Reflect and analyse their practice, identify areas of strength and weakness, and learn from their experiences.
  • Discuss and problem-solve complex cases, ethical dilemmas, and difficult situations.
  • Develop new skills, improve their knowledge base, and enhance their professional competence.
  • Develop strategies to manage their wellbeing when dealing with challenging demands.
  • Receive support, guidance, and feedback from an experienced professional.

Differences between supervision and coaching:

  • Coaching: Primarily focuses on goal setting, skill development, and performance enhancement within a specific area. It helps individuals identify their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement to achieve their goals.
  • Supervision: Primarily focuses on professional development, ethical decision-making, and maintaining professional standards. It provides a safe space for reflection, support, and guidance on complex cases or challenging situations.

Role of the supervisor:

The supervisor acts as an expert and mentor (compare to a coach who acts as a partner), providing guidance, feedback, and support based on professional standards, ethical guidelines, and best practices.

They may offer advice, challenge assumptions, and provide constructive criticism.

Supervision Services

Key principles of our supervision for educators and leadership supervision sessions include:

  • Confidentiality and Support: A safe and confidential space to explore challenges, reflect on practice, and gain emotional support.
  • Personalised Supervision: Tailored supervision to address the specific needs and challenges of each individual leader / teacher.
  • Enhanced Leadership Practice: Develop reflective practice, improve decision-making, and enhance leadership effectiveness.
  • Improved Well-being: Reduce stress and burnout, and enhance emotional resilience.
  • Ethical Guidance: Guidance on ethical dilemmas and complex situations.
  • Professional Development: Support for ongoing professional development and career progression.

We can offer supervision for:

  • Senior Leaders
  • SENCOs
  • Senior Mental Health Leader

Supervision sessions are typically one-hour long. They are usually held virtually, but can be undertaken by telephone. Face to face sessions can be available but may incur additional costs.

  • Data-driven: We utilise a range of evidence, including learning and teaching evidence, assessment information and data, observations, and reflective journals, to inform our feedback and support.
  • Confidentiality and trust: We provide a safe and confidential space for leaders and educators to reflect, share concerns, and explore their professional development.
